If you are just getting started, this course will help those who are new to music production understand the technical and creative process of making a beat and manipulating sounds in Cubase Pro. By the end of the course, each student will have produced at least one original track.
This comprehensive beginner's course is designed to demystify the world of music production and provide you with the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to create your own music. From setting up your home studio to producing your first track, we'll guide you every step of the way. No prior experience in music production is required; we'll start from scratch and build your skills progressively.
What I will learn?
Session 1: Introduction to Cubase Pro and Setting Cubase Pro
Overview of Cubase Pro: Interface, features, and workflows.
Setting up audio and MIDI devices.
Exploring project templates.
Tour of the transport panel, toolbar, and inspector.
Basic concepts: tracks, events, and regions.
Hands-on Practice: Create a simple project, import a reference track, and save a project.
Session 2: Project Setup and Basic Editing
Setting up a new project: Sample rate, bit depth, and file organization.
Working with the timeline and grid settings.
Basic editing tools: Select, Split, Glue, Erase, and Zoom.
Introduction to audio and MIDI tracks.
Hands-on Practice: Record basic audio and MIDI clips, and use basic editing tools.
Session 3: Recording Audio and MIDI
Setting up for recording: Inputs, monitoring, and metronome.
Techniques for recording MIDI and audio.
Quantization basics for MIDI timing corrections.
Loop recording and takes management.
Hands-on Practice: Record a short melody using both audio and MIDI.
Session 4: Exploring Virtual Instruments
Overview of Cubase’s stock virtual instruments (e.g., Halion Sonic, Groove Agent).
Loading, tweaking, and saving instrument patches.
Layering instruments for a fuller sound.
Introduction to drum programming.
Hands-on Practice: Create a drum loop and simple melodic pattern using virtual instruments.
Session 5: Basic Audio Processing
Understanding the signal chain.
Using EQ, compression, and reverb.
Basics of panning and volume automation.
Introduction to inserts and sends.
Hands-on Practice: Apply EQ and reverb to recorded audio, and automate a fade-out.
Requirements
Each student must have:
- Peronnal Laptop
- Cubase license (Artist or Pro), which will be used as the main DAW for the course. New enrollments are eligible for a 50% discount on the purchase of the Cubase license.
- No prior DJing or music production knowledge is required.
